Position title: Protection Officer (Child Protection & GBV Programming)  

Number of Positions: 1  

Location: Roving – Bama, Ngala, and Gwoza LGAs, Borno State  

Contract type: Full time  

Duration: 10 months  

Reporting to: Program Manager  

Start Date: As soon as possible    

1. Background

FRAD Foundation, in partnership with donors and government stakeholders, is implementing multi-sectoral humanitarian and development programs in Borno State. Protection programming is a core component, focusing on safeguarding vulnerable populations, strengthening community-based protection mechanisms, and addressing child protection and gender-based violence (GBV) concerns.  

To ensure effective delivery, FRAD Foundation seeks a qualified and motivated Protection Officer to oversee protection programming across Bama, Ngala, and Gwoza LGAs. The officer will coordinate field activities, manage protection teams, represent FRAD in coordination forums, and ensure compliance with donor and organizational standards.

2. Purpose of the Position

The Protection Officer will lead the implementation and oversight of child protection and GBV programming, ensuring alignment with sector standards, donor requirements, and FRAD’s safeguarding commitments. The officer will coordinate with community structures, government partners, and humanitarian actors to deliver high-quality protection services.

3. Key Responsibilities

A. Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Oversee day-to-day implementation of child protection and GBV activities across Bama, Ngala, and Gwoza.  
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to the GBIMS/CPIMS Assistant and GBV/CP Assistant.  
  • Ensure effective use of GBIMS+ and CPIMS+ systems for case management and reporting.  
  • Coordinate community-based protection activities, awareness campaigns, and psychosocial support sessions.  
  • Facilitate referral pathways and strengthen linkages with service providers.  

B. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • Track progress of protection activities using FRAD’s MEAL tools.  
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into GBIMS+ and CPIMS+.  
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for internal and donor use.  
  • Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned.  

C. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent FRAD Foundation in protection coordination meetings at state and LGA levels.  
  • Maintain strong relationships with community leaders, women/youth groups, and local authorities.  
  • Liaise with government agencies, UN bodies, and NGOs to strengthen protection networks.  

D. Training & Capacity Building

  • Support delivery of training sessions on child protection, GBV prevention/response, and safeguarding.  
  • Build capacity of community volunteers and staff on case management, referral pathways, and protection mainstreaming.  
  • Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.  

E. Logistics & Operational Support

  • Coordinate logistics for protection activities, including transport, venues, and materials.  
  • Ensure proper documentation of activity attendance and distributions.  
  • Support procurement processes in line with FRAD and donor guidelines.  

4. Required Qualifications & Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, or related field.  
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in child protection and GBV programming within NGOs or humanitarian settings.  
  • Strong knowledge of GBIMS+ and CPIMS+ systems.  
  • Experience in community mobilization, training facilitation, and stakeholder engagement.  
  • Ability to manage teams and coordinate multi-location activities.  
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri is an added advantage.  
  • Willingness to work in remote, hard-to-reach areas under challenging conditions.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, protection mainstreaming, and gender inclusion.  
  • Familiarity with humanitarian coordination structures in Northeast Nigeria.
