- Background
Future Resilience and Development (FRAD) Foundation is implementing integrated WASH and hygiene promotion interventions in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, aimed at improving public health outcomes and reducing the risk of waterborne and sanitation-related diseases among vulnerable populations.
The project focuses on community-based hygiene promotion, sanitation improvement, safe water handling practices, and strengthening community ownership through WASH committees and hygiene clubs. These interventions are designed to complement existing WASH infrastructure support while ensuring behavior change, inclusion, accountability, and safeguarding standards.
To support effective implementation of hygiene promotion activities at community and household levels, FRAD Foundation seeks qualified and motivated Hygiene Promotion Assistants.
2. Purpose of the Position
The Hygiene Promotion Assistant will support the implementation of hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities in Gwoza LGA. The role focuses on promoting positive hygiene behaviors, supporting distribution and monitoring of hygiene kits, engaging communities for sustainable behavior change, and ensuring accurate data collection and reporting in line with project objectives and donor requirements.
3. Key Responsibilities / Functions
A. Hygiene Promotion & Community Engagement
- Conduct regular community sensitization and hygiene awareness sessions.
- Promote key hygiene behaviors, including handwashing with soap, proper sanitation, menstrual hygiene management, and safe water handling.
- Conduct household visits to reinforce hygiene promotion messages and assess behavior adoption.
- Support the formation, training, and follow-up of WASH committees and hygiene clubs.
- Collaborate with community leaders and structures to promote sustainability of hygiene practices.
B. Distribution & Monitoring
- Support the distribution of hygiene kits in line with approved beneficiary lists.
- Monitor hygiene kit utilization at household and community levels.
- Ensure proper documentation of distributions and attendance registers.
- Identify gaps in WASH services and report findings to supervisors.
C. Monitoring, Data Collection & Reporting
- Participate in community mapping, needs assessments, and data collection exercises.
- Collect accurate field-level data using project tools and templates.
- Submit timely daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.
- Support feedback, complaints, and accountability mechanisms at community level.
D. Safeguarding, Accountability & Coordination
- Uphold FRAD safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and accountability standards.
- Identify and promptly report safeguarding or PSEA concerns using established reporting pathways.
- Ensure inclusive participation of women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct at all times.
- Work closely with WASH team members and community stakeholders.

- Quality and consistency of hygiene promotion sessions delivered.
- Increased adoption of key hygiene practices at household and community levels.
- Accurate data collection and timely submission of reports.
- Effective monitoring and appropriate use of hygiene kits.
- Compliance with safeguarding, PSEA, and accountability standards.
5. Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Minimum Requirements
- SSCE or Diploma in Community Development, Public Health, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in community outreach, hygiene promotion, or related field activities.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Experience in community mobilization and facilitation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in local languages (Hausa, Mandara, Waha, Lamu, Glavda, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Resident of Gwoza LGA or surrounding communities.
- Previous experience in WASH, hygiene promotion, or humanitarian programming.
- Knowledge of PHAST, CLTS, or CHAST approaches.
- Ability to communicate in Hausa, Mandara, Waha, Lamu, and Glavda etc
- Understanding of humanitarian principles, accountability, and community-based approaches.
- Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and PSEA values.
