Background
FRAD Foundation, in partnership with its donors and relevant government institutions, is implementing protection-focused humanitarian interventions aimed at preventing and responding to protection risks affecting vulnerable populations in conflict-affected communities of Borno State and other project locations.
These interventions focus on strengthening community-based protection systems, improving access to protection services, and enhancing community awareness of rights and available protection pathways for internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host communities, women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities.
The programme adopts a community-based protection and protection monitoring approach to ensure that protection risks are identified early, documented, and addressed through appropriate referrals and community engagement. Key thematic areas include protection monitoring, prevention of violence, community-based protection, safe referrals, child protection, and strengthening community protection structures.
To support field-level protection monitoring and strengthen community engagement, FRAD Foundation seeks competent and motivated Protection Case workers to support the implementation of protection activities across MMC and Jere LGAs.
Purpose of the Position
The Protection Case Worker will support the identification, documentation, and response to protection risks affecting vulnerable populations in assigned locations. Working under the supervision of the Protection Officer or Protection Team Lead, the Case Worker will conduct field visits, engage with communities, identify individuals at risk, and facilitate safe referrals to appropriate protection services.
The role contributes to ensuring protection concerns are systematically identified, documented, and addressed while promoting survivor-centered approaches, protection principles, safeguarding standards, and inclusive participation.
Key Responsibilities
Case Identification & Support
- Conduct regular field visits and engage with communities to identify individuals at risk of protection violations, including GBV, child protection concerns, exploitation, and abuse.
- Document cases accurately and maintain confidentiality and adherence to survivor-centered approaches.
- Facilitate safe referrals to appropriate service providers, including GBV services, child protection actors, health facilities, psychosocial support, and legal assistance.
- Follow up on referred cases in coordination with protection actors to ensure adequate support.
- Maintain records of case identification, referrals, and follow-ups using FRAD-approved tools.
Protection Monitoring & Field Support
- Support protection monitoring by collecting and documenting data on risks, vulnerabilities, and emerging trends within communities.
- Analyze and report protection risks to inform program responses.
- Promote safe and ethical engagement with individuals and communities, respecting confidentiality and protection principles.
Community Mobilization & Awareness
- Mobilize community members to participate in protection awareness sessions and discussions.
- Facilitate community dialogues on protection risks, rights, and available services.
- Support community-based protection structures, including protection committees and focal points.
- Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in protection activities.
- Assist in distributing protection awareness materials and conducting sensitization sessions on GBV, child protection, protection rights, and referral pathways.
Reporting, Documentation & Coordination
- Contribute to weekly and monthly field reports by providing timely updates on protection cases, community engagement, and emerging risks.
- Share key protection findings and community feedback with the Protection Officer or Protection Manager.
- Participate in internal coordination meetings, protection sector activities, and support MEAL teams during monitoring visits or assessments.
Operational & Logistical Support
- Assist in planning and coordinating field missions, community outreach, and case management activities.
- Ensure proper documentation of attendance sheets, monitoring tools, and activity reports.
- Support logistical arrangements for community protection and awareness activities.
- Adhere to FRAD safeguarding policies, protection principles, and humanitarian standards at all times.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, Development Studies, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in protection case management, monitoring, or humanitarian programming.
- Experience in conflict-affected or humanitarian contexts, preferably in Northeast Nigeria.
- Basic understanding of protection principles, case management, and referral pathways.
- Experience conducting community engagement, awareness sessions, or field monitoring activities.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri desirable.
- Willingness to work in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Desirable:
- Experience in Protection Monitoring or Community-Based Protection (CBP) programs.
- Familiarity with humanitarian coordination mechanisms and referral pathways in Borno.
- Experience with donor-funded humanitarian projects.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, AAP (Accountability to Affected Populations), and protection mainstreaming.
